Partners’ Forum December 2012 – rising to the challenge
The GAVI Alliance held its fifth Partners’ Forum in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, in December 2012. Over 600 participants from 94 countries attended, including representatives from the governments of 55 GAVI-supported countries. The goal was to explore better ways to accelerate results, innovation, sustainability and equity in immunisation through a series of interactive sessions.
The 45 sessions discussed issues as diverse as cold chain strategies for the 21st century, vaccine technology transfer and sustainable financing.
There was active participation from ministers of health and finance, assistant ministers and permanent secretaries, government officials, first ladies, representatives of civil society, faith-based organisations, the pharmaceutical industry and the donor community, parliamentarians, and representatives from the private sector, research and technical institutions, the media and the main Alliance partners, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, WHO and the World Bank.
A special awards dinner was held to honour those who have made a difference to the lives of children in developing countries and their communities through the effective delivery of immunisation programmes. The South African singer, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and global health advocate, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, was master of ceremonies at the awards dinner.
